Disaster Relief
With a diverse geological landscape, Myanmar faces annual monsoon rains, earthquakes, tropical storms, and cyclones. When natural disasters strike, the impact on communities and essential infrastructure can be significant.
At AW Foundation, we are equipped to provide initial relief and assistance to minimize the suffering of the affected communities and follow up with longer-term rebuilding initiatives to restore livelihoods. When one of Myanmar’s biggest floods occurred in 2015, damaging over 1 million acres of farmland and resulting in over 100 deaths, AW Foundation responded swiftly to provide assistance, which included:
• Donating consumables such as emergency supplies, food and medical necessities;
• Resettling affected flood victims.;
• Funding reconstruction efforts of new schools across multiple townships and villages; and
• Providing dredging services to create a drinking water reservoir.
We have also supported those affected by fires, which ravaged more than 300 homes, and other community facilities in Letbutta and Nam San.
